Lakes, Rivers, and Streams The Cowlitz River is open all year below the confluence of the clear and muddy forks. Above that, the river closes, along with the lakes, on October 31st. Salmon plantings are taking place regularly at the Franklin Bridge in Packwood. Several loads of Chinook and Coho have been planted. We'll have all the latest info posted in the shop and we offer fresh egg skeins and the hot lures, hooks and termimal tackle you need to land the big ones.   Nice sized trout can be landed near the Franklin bridge too. Salmon eggs seem to be a good choice. Apparently the trout are eating salmon eggs from the coho and kings. I caught this 17 incher.
